SOS Médecins National Newsletter, March 26, 2018

Summary

During Week 12 (March 19–25, 2018), overall activity at SOS Médecins clinics rose slightly among children (+6.5%, or +1,436 visits) and fell among adults (-5.7%, or -2,872 visits).

Seasonal conditions were generally stable or declining among adults. Among children under 15, there was an increase in visits for bronchitis (+9.8%, or +103 visits), as well as for pneumonia and upper respiratory tract conditions among children aged 2 to 14 (respectively +30%, or +22 visits, and +14.5%, or +993 visits). Across all age groups, the decline in visits for influenza/flu-like illness continues (-18%, or -680 visits). The level of activity remains significantly higher than it was during the same period last year. Among the non-specific indicators, we note an increase in visits for infectious conjunctivitis among children (+14.7%, or +63 visits) and adults aged 15–74 (+5.9%, or +14 visits). Among children, there was also a slight increase (in line with overall activity) in visits for asthma (+6%, or +17 visits) and for allergies, particularly among children under 2 years of age (+38%, or +34 visits). Across all indicators, the associated activity shares are comparable to those of the past two years, with the exception of adult visits for pneumonia, which are slightly higher.

Among the most common conditions, there was an increase in visits for chickenpox among children: +9% (+12 visits) among children under 2 and +34% (+100 visits) among those aged 2–14. Among adults, the most common conditions remained stable or declined. However, among people aged 75 and older, there was an increase in visits for anxiety (+34%, or +52 visits).
