SOS Médecins National Newsletter, March 26, 2013

After a steady decline throughout February, activity at SOS Médecins clinics has begun to stabilize over the past week, with patient numbers comparable to those of the 2010–2011 and 2011–2012 seasons for the same period. In particular, there has been a moderate increase in total activity among children aged 5 to 14 (+19%, or +1,017 visits). At the regional level, there has been a slight increase in activity in the Northeast region. The influenza indicator continues its downward trend across all age groups (-32% in diagnoses across all ages, with 1,232 weekly cases) and in all regions. This indicator now accounts for only 4% of the overall activity of association physicians, with numbers comparable to the 2011-2012 season for the same period. Among children under 2 years of age, activity related to bronchiolitis is rising moderately (+25%, or +29 visits) but remains at a level comparable to 2010–2011 and 2011–2012 for the same period. Activity related to gastroenteritis is generally stable over the period across all age groups and regions, although there is a slight increase in this activity among children aged 5 to 14 (+20%, or +87 diagnoses). This activity accounts for 9% of SOS Médecins’ total activity, with numbers comparable to those of 2010–2011 and 2011–2012 for the same period. The death rate continues its downward trend for the second consecutive week, reaching a level comparable to 2010–2011 and higher than 2011–2012 for the same period, while remaining within expected seasonal ranges. This trend is observed in all regions except the Northeast, where a slight increase is noted. The main conditions reported by association physicians across all age groups are gastroenteritis, nasopharyngitis, and ENT infections, although the trend compared to the previous week shows a stabilization in the number of diagnoses for these conditions. Note that there has been an increase in the proportion of asthma diagnoses relative to total activity across all age groups.
