Summary
During Week 11 (March 12–18, 2018), overall activity at SOS Médecins clinics remained stable among children and decreased by 10% among adults (-5,634 visits).
Among seasonal conditions, there was a decrease in visits for respiratory conditions among adults: bronchitis (-24%, -980 visits), pneumonia (-24%, -227 visits), and asthma (-21%, -133 visits), following four consecutive weeks of increases. However, the share of activity for these three indicators remains higher than in the two previous years during this period. Visits for upper respiratory tract conditions are also down by 16% among adults (-1,579 visits), with the share of activity returning to the levels observed in the two previous years. Across all age groups, the decline in visits for influenza/flu-like illness continues (-37%, or -2,195 visits). The share of activity remains significantly higher than last year’s during this period. Among children aged 2–14, there was an increase in visits for gastroenteritis (+11%, or +176 visits). In this age group, there was also an increase in visits for non-specific conditions: asthma attacks (+40%, or +67 visits) and conjunctivitis (+17%, or +34 visits).
Among common conditions, there was a 42% increase in visits for trauma (+113 visits) among children aged 2–14, as well as an 18% increase for acute abdominal pain (+64 visits). Among children under 2 years of age, all the most frequent visits are stable or declining, with the exception of visits for chickenpox, which increased by 7.4% (+11 visits). Among adults, all 10 of the most frequently seen conditions by SOS Médecins associations are stable or declining (particularly among people aged 75 and older).
