SOS Médecins National Newsletter, March 19, 2013

Activity at SOS Médecins clinics has declined slightly since early February, with patient numbers comparable to those of the 2010–2011 and 2011–2012 seasons for the same period. Over the past week, there has been a slight decrease in activity among adults (-12%). The influenza indicator has dropped sharply across all age groups (-49% across all ages, with 1,793 weekly cases) and in all regions. This indicator accounts for less than 6% of the overall activity of the association’s physicians, with patient numbers comparable to those of the 2011-2012 season for the same period. Among children under 2 years of age, activity related to bronchiolitis has stabilized at a level comparable to that of the 2010–2011 and 2011–2012 seasons for the same period. Activity related to gastroenteritis remained stable over the period across all age groups, with a decrease observed among those aged 75 and older (-24%, or -48 cases). This activity accounts for 10% of SOS Médecins’ total activity, with staffing levels comparable to those of 2010–2011 and 2011–2012 for the same period. The death rate has decreased slightly over the past week, reaching a level comparable to 2010–2011 and higher than 2011–2012 for the same period, while remaining within expected seasonal ranges. A slight increase is observed in the Île-de-France and Centre-Est regions, but the indicator level remains within the expected seasonal fluctuations. The main conditions reported by association physicians across all age groups remain, as in previous weeks, influenza, gastroenteritis, and nasopharyngitis.
