SOS Médecins National Newsletter, March 18, 2024
Key Points
In Week 11 (March 11–17, 2024), activity at SOS Médecins clinics increased among children aged 2–14 (+10%, or +2,132 visits) and remained stable or declined in other age groups.
Across all age groups, visits for isolated fever and scarlet fever are on the rise, both among children (up 23% and 57%, respectively) and adults (up 13% and 17%, respectively). Visits for influenza/flu-like illness continue to decline across all age groups (down 15% overall, or 701 fewer visits).
With the resumption of school activities in all regions, there has been an increase in most indicators among children, particularly those aged 2–14 (ranging from +10% to +26%): abdominal pain (+26%), trauma (+23%), chickenpox (+18%), and seasonal respiratory indicators (notably an increase in cases of pneumonia among children under 2 years old (+40%, or +19 cases) after two consecutive weeks of decline).
Among adults, the trend is similar to that of Week 10, with a continued increase in procedures for digestive conditions among those aged 15–74 (vomiting: +19%, or +54 procedures, and gastroenteritis: +9%, or +281 procedures).
Regarding mental health indicators, notable increases include cases of anxiety among children under 15 and those aged 15–64 (up 105% and 8%, respectively, or 21 and 82 cases) and cases of depression among those aged 65 and older (up 39%, or 10 cases).
