SOS Médecins National Newsletter, March 13, 2023
Key Points
In Week 10 (March 6–12, 2023), the week schools reopened for Zone C (the last zone still on break), SOS Médecins activity increased among children aged 2–14 (+12%, or +2,435 visits) and remained stable across all age groups.
In connection with the start of the school year, we observe an increase in most indicators among children under 15, most notably for seasonal respiratory conditions: influenza/flu-like illness (up 26%, or 535 visits), bronchitis (up 23%, or 77 visits), pneumonia (+34%, or +26 cases), asthma (+22%, or +60 cases among 2- to 14-year-olds), as well as isolated fever (+21%, or +128 cases) and viral syndrome (+22%, or +129 cases).
Consultations for suspected COVID-19 have risen sharply across all age groups (+65% among children, or +42 consultations, and +45% among adults, or +282 consultations) following several weeks of sporadic increases limited to certain age groups.
Among adults, most indicators are stable or declining, with the exception of mental health indicators: cases for depressive disorders are up among those aged 15 and older (+20%, or +39 cases) and for anxiety among those aged 75 and older (+15%, or +24 cases).
