Summary
During Week 10 (March 5–11, 2018), overall activity at SOS Médecins clinics remained stable among children and increased among adults (+5%, +2,498 visits), particularly among those aged 75 and older (+10%, +782 visits).
Among children and adults, visits for seasonal illnesses were down, particularly for influenza/flu-like illness (down 198 visits and 515 visits, respectively), bronchiolitis (down 38 visits), bronchitis (respectively -219 visits and -244 visits) and ENT conditions (respectively -273 visits and -267 visits). However, the proportion of activity related to influenza/flu-like illness among coded visits remains higher than in the previous season. After two consecutive weeks of decline, visits for gastroenteritis are on the rise among children and adults (respectively +13%, +268 visits, and +8%, +295 visits), accompanied by acute abdominal pain (respectively +21%, +61 visits, and +6%, +59 visits). Visits for pneumonia are also on the rise among adults (+6%, +52 visits). Among visits related to nonspecific indicators, there is an increase in isolated fever (+19%, +123 visits) among children and malaise (+12%, +43 visits), as well as allergies (+17%, +82 visits) among adults.
Among common conditions in children aged 2–14, there was an increase in visits for viral syndrome (+83 visits), isolated fever (+68 visits), and vomiting (+42 visits). Among those aged 15–74, the increase in visits pertains to low back pain/sciatica (+166 visits), urinary tract infections (+155 visits), and various injuries (+140 visits). Among those aged 75 and older, most of the most common conditions are on the rise, particularly visits for deterioration in general health (+33%, +103 visits) and heart failure (+21%, +47 visits) for the second consecutive week. There was also an increase in visits due to death (+19%, +64 visits), which was higher than in the previous two years. Finally, as with younger adults, visits for low back pain/sciatica (+30 visits), urinary tract infections (+58 visits), and various injuries (+47 visits) are on the rise among those aged 75 and older.
