SOS Médecins National Newsletter, March 11, 2014

Overall Activity Trends Activity at SOS Médecins chapters has remained stable over the past month both nationally and regionally. Patient numbers are similar to those observed in 2012 and 2013 for the same period. Use of SOS Médecins among those under 15 has been declining for the past 3 weeks (-11%, -1,983 consultations), likely due to the final week of school vacation.

Trends in Seasonal Indicators Diagnoses of influenza/influenza-like illness are down nationally and in the regions for the third consecutive week, across all age groups and for the monitored age groups (-30%, -1,195 diagnoses). Case numbers are lower than those in 2012 and 2013. After remaining stable the previous week, bronchitis diagnoses are also declining across all age groups and among the monitored age groups (-18%, -504 diagnoses). Case numbers are comparable to those in 2012 and 2013. After a decrease in gastroenteritis diagnoses over the past 15 days, these have stabilized over the past week across all age groups, at a level of activity close to that of 2012 and 2013. It should be noted that gastroenteritis is the diagnosis most frequently reported by SOS Médecins during this period. Other seasonal indicators (pneumonia, asthma, and ENT infections) were stable or declining over the past week, at levels comparable to those of 2012 and 2013.
