SOS Médecins National Newsletter, June 8, 2010

Since last week, this bulletin has included tracking of the following syndrome-based indicators: fainting spells, heat-related effects, fever, allergies, insect bites, and deaths, as part of the summer surveillance program.

Data from the SOS Médecins Oise association are now included in the bulletin.

Over the past week, the total volume of activity at SOS Médecins associations remained stable compared to the previous week across all age groups and in most regions.

The first calls for direct heat-related effects were recorded over the Pentecost weekend (May 22, 23, and 24), a period marked by the first heat waves recorded in France. The number of calls for the "malaise" and "fever" indicators remained stable across all age groups, except for children aged 2–14, among whom an increase in fever diagnoses was observed over the past week (graph not shown). The "allergies" indicator rose over the weekend of June 5 and 6. "Insect bites" saw a sharp increase on Sunday, June 6.

The number of deaths certified by SOS Médecins is similar to that of the previous week.
