SOS Médecins National Newsletter, June 27, 2022

Key Points

In Week 25 (June 20–26, 2022), total activity at SOS Médecins clinics rose slightly among children (+4%, or +838 visits) and remained stable among adults.

Medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 across all age groups have been on the rise for the fourth consecutive week. COVID-19 cases are rising across all age groups: +44% (or +433 cases) among those aged 15–74, +80% (or +204 cases) among those aged 2–14, and +64% (or +47 cases) among those aged 75 and older. Among children under 2 years of age, the increase is less pronounced than in other age groups (+28%, or 12 cases). In total, 2,084 cases (vs. 1,384 cases in Week 24) were recorded across all age groups (a 51% increase vs. a 35% increase in Week 24).

At the regional level, SOS Médecins medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 are increasing in all regions, with the exception of Centre-Val de Loire and Brittany, where they remain stable.

Since monitoring began on March 3, 2020, 350,961 medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 have been performed.

Among other indicators, most of which are declining, the following stand out:

  • following a heat wave in week 24, a return to normal levels for heat-related indicators; however, cases of dehydration remain stable at a high level among those aged 75 and older;

  • among children: an increase in procedures for viral syndrome (+19%, or +288 procedures), infectious conjunctivitis (+14%, or +78 procedures), and, exclusively among those under 2 years of age, for allergies (+49%, or +40 procedures);

  • among those aged 75 and older: an increase in cases of acute abdominal pain, falls, and deterioration in general health (low numbers);

  • a slight increase in procedures for chickenpox among those aged 15–74 (+33%, or +9 procedures), which nevertheless remain at a high level among children and adults.
