Summary

In week 24 (June 14–20, 2021), total activity at SOS Médecins clinics remained stable among adults and rose slightly among children under 15 (+4.8%, or +1,015 visits).

Since Week 20 (when activity stabilized), medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 have resumed their decline across all age groups for the fourth consecutive week (692 procedures in Week 24 vs. 874 in Week 23, a decrease of 21%). The proportion of such cases was also down (0.7% in Week 24 vs. 0.9% in Week 23). At the regional level, SOS Médecins procedures for suspected COVID-19 are down in all regions except Corsica (stable) and the Pays de Loire (48 procedures in W24 vs. 43 in W23). Since monitoring began on March 3, 2020, 223,724 medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 have been performed.

Seasonal indicators continue to rise, with marked increases for heatstroke (+138%, or +110 cases), dehydration in adults (+21%, or +21 cases), insect bites (+44%, or +449 cases), as well as chickenpox in children under 15 (+17%, or +76 cases). Among adults aged 15 and older, there was also an increase in cases of malaise (+25%, or +77 cases) and isolated fever (+15%, or +161 cases). Also noteworthy is an increase in cases of:

  • infectious conjunctivitis (+28%, or +38 visits) and skin conditions (+61%, or +54 visits) among children under 2 years of age

  • gastroenteritis (+11%, or +188 visits) and urinary tract infections (+8%, or +129 visits) among those aged 15–74

  • heart failure (+10%), falls (+9%), and deaths (+7%) among people aged 75 and older, though the sample sizes were small.
