SOS Médecins National Newsletter, June 19, 2012
Activity among patient organizations remained stable over the past week across all age groups, both nationally and regionally; this trend is comparable to that of the same period last year. The indicator for asthma attack diagnoses remained stable across all age groups, though it remains at a higher level than during the same period last year. It should be noted that this trend has been observed since early October and may also reflect improved coding of this diagnosis. Allergy diagnoses have remained stable over the period; however, a decline in activity for this indicator is observed among children aged 5 to 14 and among those aged 15 to 14. This indicator remains at a level slightly higher than last year for the same period, following the peak reached in early June observed in all regions except the Southeast. The indicator for gastroenteritis is stable across all age groups, at a level comparable to previous springs (2010 and 2011).The indicators for heatstroke and dehydration are stable over the period and comparable to 2010 and 2011 for the same period. The indicator for general malaise is stable for the past week; however, it remains at a level slightly higher than in 2010 and 2011 for the same period. After a peak in activity in early June, the insect bite indicator has returned to a level comparable to 2011 for the same period. The main conditions observed are ENT conditions; there has been a slight increase in nasopharyngitis and bronchitis, up 14% and 13%, respectively, among those over 15 years of age, and up 11% across all age groups (data not shown). The death rate is slightly higher but remains at levels comparable to those of 2010 and 2011 for the same period.
