SOS Médecins National Newsletter, June 12, 2018
Summary
In week 23 (June 4–10), overall activity at SOS Médecins clinics remained stable among adults and rose very slightly among children (+5%, or +835 visits).
Visits related to seasonal conditions were mostly stable or declining in Week 23, for both adults and children. However, there was an increase in visits among children under 2 years of age for allergies (+24%, or +25 consultations), among 2- to 14-year-olds for infectious conjunctivitis, burns, and hyperthermia/heatstroke, and among adults for insect bites, though in all cases the numbers were low.
Among the non-specific indicators, we note an increase in visits across all age groups for isolated fever (+16%, or +142 visits among children, and +11%, or +31 visits among adults) and asthma (+9%, or +28 visits among children, and +6%, or +23 visits among adults), and exclusively among adults for dehydration (+19%, or+8 visits). For all these indicators, the associated activity level is comparable to that of the previous two years.
Among the most common conditions, there was an increase in visits among children for viral syndrome, for dermatological diagnoses in children under 2 years of age, and for upper respiratory tract conditions in children aged 2–14 (+11%, or +597 visits). Bronchitis increased among children aged 2–14 and among those aged 75 and older. Finally, among adults aged 75 and older, there was an increase in consultations for various cardiac conditions (+40%, or +56 visits). For adults aged 15–74, the most common conditions remained stable or decreased.
