SOS Médecins National Newsletter, July 6, 2010
Over the past week, the total volume of activity at SOS Médecins clinics remained stable compared to the previous week across all age groups and geographic areas.
To monitor the effects of the heat, two indicators based on diagnoses have been added to this bulletin: heatstroke and dehydration. The number of calls for direct heat-related effects and diagnoses of heatstroke has increased over the past 10 days. These increases apply to all age groups and all geographic areas. Diagnoses of dehydration are also on the rise among those aged 75 and older. Twenty cases were recorded on Sunday, July 5.
The number of calls regarding "feeling unwell" has remained stable, including among people over 75.
Fever diagnoses have increased in recent days among children aged 2 to 14. This increase certainly has an infectious component.
The "allergies" indicator is comparable to last week’s.
"Insect bites" are at the same level as last week, though they remain higher than usual.
The number of deaths certified by the SOS Médecins associations has increased slightly compared to the previous week and remains within the usual range.
