SOS Médecins National Newsletter, January 7, 2014
Nationally and across regions, activity at SOS Médecins clinics for all age groups has stabilized over the past week. Activity among children under 15 has declined (-23%, -6,323 consultations), likely due to school vacations. This decline is observed across all regions, particularly in the Centre/Ile-de-France region. The numbers are very close to those of 2012 and higher than those of 2011.
Main conditions reported: Among children under 15, the main conditions observed are nasopharyngitis, ear infections, and acute respiratory infections. It is noted that, for this age group, these conditions have decreased significantly over the period. Among adults over 15 years of age, acute respiratory failure, gastroenteritis, and bronchitis are the main conditions observed, and activity related to these remains stable.
Analysis by indicator and age group The influenza indicator remains stable across all age groups during the week under review but continues to show an increase in activity among adults over 15 years of age (+52%, +177 cases). Case numbers remain significantly lower than in 2012 but higher than in 2011. Among children under 2 years of age, diagnoses of bronchiolitis are down significantly over the period (-30%, -230 cases). Activity related to this indicator remains slightly higher than in 2011 and 2012. Pneumonias and acute respiratory infections are down over the period across all age groups (-20% for pneumonias and -12% for acute respiratory infections). Activity related to pneumonia is comparable to that of 2011 and 2012; it is lower than in 2012 and higher than in 2011 for acute respiratory infections. The bronchitis indicator is down across all age groups (-13%, -582 cases); the trend over time is identical to that observed in 2012. However, there is an increase among those aged 75 and older (+15%, +118 cases). The gastroenteritis indicator is stable across all age groups, with a decrease in activity among children under 5 (-19%, -207 cases). Case numbers are significantly lower than in 2012 and higher than in 2011.
