Summary

In Week 01 (December 30 to January 5), total activity decreased by 20% among children (a decrease of 5,903 procedures) and increased by 8% among adults (an increase of 5,083 procedures).

Highlights from the past week:

  • For gastrointestinal conditions: an increase in cases of vomiting and gastroenteritis among children (up 12%, or 61 cases, and up 29%, or 733 cases, respectively) and, among adults, a moderate increase in gastroenteritis compared to Week 52 (up 10%, or 1,027 cases) and a decrease in cases of vomiting. Consultations for gastroenteritis accounted for 14% of total activity among children (8.7% in Week 52) and 17.5% among adults (17.3% in Week 52), representing a share of activity twice as high as in the past two years.

  • For respiratory conditions: among adults, there was an increase in cases for influenza/flu-like illness (+31%, or +733 cases), asthma (+10%, or +84 cases), and bronchitis (+20.3%, or +759 cases). Cases for bronchitis account for 7% of total activity among adults. Among children, cases of bronchiolitis (under 2 years old) are down (-26%, or -209 cases), and the proportion of cases for influenza remains stable compared to Week 52.

Among other indicators, there was an increase in cases of chickenpox among children aged 2–14 (+25%). Among adults, in line with the increase in total activity, most of the most frequent diagnoses are on the rise.
