SOS Médecins National Newsletter, January 5–11, 2015
Trends in Overall Healthcare Utilization: Due to a strike on December 29 and 30, SOS Médecins’ activity decreased by approximately 50% over those two days. Taking this into account, activity in Week 2 compared to Week 1 remained stable among adults under 75, decreased among children under 2 and adults over 75, and increased slightly among children aged 2 to 14. Across all age groups, the number of cases is down, with figures close to those of 2013 and 2014.
Trends in Major Conditions: Among children under 2 years of age, the most common conditions are decreasing (ENT conditions), but an increase is noted for gastroenteritis and vomiting. Among children aged 2 to 14, there has been an increase in visits for influenza/influenza-like illness, gastroenteritis, isolated fever, and viral syndrome. Among adults, the main conditions are stable or declining.
Trends in seasonal indicators: The increase in consultations for influenza/influenza-like illness continues among children and adults under 75 years of age, and is particularly pronounced among children aged 2 to 14 (approximately +80%, or +300 visits). The numbers are very close to those of the 2012–13 season and are significantly higher than those of the 2013–14 season during the same period. The trend is consistent across all regions as the upward phase begins, with a more pronounced and earlier increase in the Île-de-France region. Visits for gastroenteritis are rising among children, particularly those aged 2–14, with figures close to those of the 2012–13 season. Regional trends suggest a possible peak in the Île-de-France, Nord, and Est regions. Calls to SOS Médecins for other seasonal indicators (bronchiolitis, acute bronchitis, pneumonia, and asthma) are down significantly across all age groups, with figures close to those of previous years.
