SOS Médecins National Newsletter, January 30, 2023
Key Points
In Week 04 (January 23–29, 2023), total activity at SOS Médecins clinics continued to rise among children aged 2 to 14 (+10%, or +2,314 visits) and remained stable in other age groups.
Among children aged 2–14 and adults aged 15–74, there was a renewed increase in medical procedures for influenza (up 13%, or 314 procedures, and up 15%, or 644 procedures, respectively), following several weeks of decline.
Among children, medical procedures for certain respiratory conditions continue to rise: acute bronchitis (+19%, or +198 procedures), ENT conditions (+12%, or +1,301 procedures among 2- to 14-year-olds); however, medical procedures for bronchiolitis, asthma attacks, pneumonia, and COVID-19 are declining.
Among adults aged 15 to 74, as with the flu, there is a resurgence in procedures for respiratory conditions: bronchitis (+17%), pneumonia (+11%), ENT conditions (+8%, or 916 more visits—also observed among those aged 75 and older), and suspected COVID-19 with low case numbers (+7%, or 28 more visits). An increase in visits for general malaise is also observed (+33%, or 52 more visits).
Medical procedures have stabilized at levels close to those of previous seasons for acute gastroenteritis and vomiting, which had been on the rise in previous weeks. Of note is the continued increase in procedures for conjunctivitis in children (+17%, or +90 procedures)—which remains at a high level among both children and adults, as does scarlet fever.
