SOS Médecins National Newsletter, January 28, 2014

Activity at SOS Médecins clinics remained stable over the past week across all age groups, both nationally and regionally, with patient numbers within the expected range for this time of year. However, as in the previous week, there was an increase in the number of patients under 15 seeking care at SOS Médecins (+14%, +2,699 consultations).

Trends in seasonal indicators: With the exception of gastroenteritis (stable at a high level), seasonal indicators (primarily ENT and respiratory) are on the rise across all age groups, but case numbers remain within expected seasonal ranges.

Main reported conditions: Calls to SOS Médecins for influenza/flu-like illness are increasing across all age groups (+30%, +556 cases). This trend is observed in all geographic regions, particularly in the Southwest. Case numbers remain at very moderate levels compared to the 2012/2013 flu season. Among children under 15, ENT infections (nasopharyngitis, otitis, tonsillitis, tracheitis) and respiratory infections (bronchitis, pneumonia) are on the rise, as in the previous week, in line with their seasonal trend.

Among children under 2 years of age, after several weeks of decline, diagnoses of bronchiolitis increased over the past week (+31%, +68 cases). Case numbers are slightly higher than in 2012 and 2013 for the same period.
