Key Points
In Week 52 (December 25–31, 2023), the first week of the year-end holidays, activity at SOS Médecins clinics increased among those aged 75 and older (+20%, or +1,375 visits) and remained stable or declined in other age groups.
The rise in respiratory indicators continues among adults, most notably among those aged 75 and older. Of particular note is an increase in procedures for pneumonia (+26%, or +420 procedures, at levels that remain very high compared to previous years), acute bronchitis (+14%, or +590 cases), and, among those aged 75 and older, for asthma attacks and upper respiratory tract conditions (+28%, or +26 and +139 cases, respectively). Procedures for influenza/influenza-like illness continued to rise among those aged 75 and older and among children under 2 years of age (up 56% and 34%, respectively, or 133 and 63 procedures).
The increase in procedures also continues for gastroenteritis among adults (+57% among those aged 15–74 and +90% among those aged 75 and older) and for vomiting (+17% among those aged 15–74 only).
Among other indicators, notable increases in procedures among adults include urinary tract infections, conjunctivitis (up 8% and 13%, respectively), and isolated fever (up 15% among those aged 15–74). Among children, there was an increase in procedures for chickenpox (up 29%).
