Summary

  • In week 52 (December 25–31), total activity at SOS Médecins clinics rose by 9% for children under 2 years of age (+757 visits) and by 15.6% for adults (+8,173 visits), particularly adults aged 75 and older (+31.5%, or +2,234 visits). Activity decreased among children aged 2–14 (-18%).

  • Among adults, with the exception of visits for allergies and general malaise, all seasonal conditions showed a marked increase, particularly among those aged 75 and older. More specifically, there was an increase in adult visits for influenza/flu-like illness (+38%, or +2,876 visits), pneumonia (+60.6%, or +447 visits), bronchitis (+49%, or +1,932 visits), asthma (+50%, or +314 visits), and gastroenteritis (+24%, or +919 visits). Among those aged 75 and older, seasonal conditions (particularly respiratory ones) have all increased by at least 50% compared to the previous week. Among children, only those under 2 years of age saw an increase in visits for certain seasonal conditions over the past week. This is the case for visits related to allergies (+31.6%, or +31 visits), influenza/flu-like illness (+50%, or +223 visits), bronchiolitis (+11%, or +72 visits), and bronchitis (+12%, or +55 visits). The proportion of visits for influenza/flu-like illness is higher than during the same period last year, both among children and adults aged 15–74.

  • Among the most frequently encountered conditions at SOS Médecins clinics, excluding seasonal illnesses, there was a 26.6% increase in visits for chickenpox among children (+134 visits) and, among adults over 75, an increase in deaths certified by SOS Médecins (+25%, or +77 deaths).
