Summary
In Week 2 (January 8–14, 2018), overall activity at SOS Médecins clinics declined among children under 2 years old (-20%, -1,340 visits), among those aged 15–74 (-15%, -8,051 visits), and among those aged 75 and older (-18%, -1,698 visits), while it increased among those aged 2–14 (+7%, +1,093 visits).
In line with the increase in activity among 2- to 14-year-olds, trends in seasonal illnesses are marked by an increase in visits for gastroenteritis (+55%, +662 visits) and influenza/flu-like illness (+12%, +282 visits). For influenza/influenza-like illness, a slight resurgence is observed among 2- to 14-year-olds, while activity is declining in all other age groups. Across all age groups, a peak was reached in week 52, and activity has been declining since then. Visits for bronchiolitis have been declining (-47%, -216 visits) for two consecutive weeks (peak observed in week 49). Among adults, visits for malaise are on the rise (+11%, +35 visits).
Among children, the most common conditions, excluding seasonal illnesses, are viral syndrome (+28%, +103 visits), isolated fever (+24%, +86 visits), and vomiting (+60%, +149 visits).
Among children aged 2–14, there has also been a sharp increase in trauma cases (+91%, +129) and acute abdominal pain (+61%, +149 visits).
