Summary

In Week 5 (January 28–February 3, 2019), total activity at SOS Médecins clinics increased among children aged 2–14 (+7%) and adults aged 15–74 (+6%), reaching levels higher than those of the previous two years. It remained stable among children under 2 years of age and adults aged 75 and older.

Influenza is the most common diagnosis among adults and the second most common diagnosis among children. Compared to the previous week, flu-related visits increased by +33% across all age groups (representing +5,220 visits across all ages). This diagnosis accounts for 22% of total coded activity, a proportion exceeding those of the previous two years at the peak of the epidemic. All metropolitan regions are experiencing an epidemic in Week 5.

Among other seasonal conditions, notable increases in cases include: - pneumonia (+27% among children and +10% among adults), - viral syndrome (+21%) and asthma attacks (+15.6%) among adults aged 15–74, - ENT conditions (+10.5%) and gastrointestinal problems (+14%) among those aged 75 and older, - infectious conjunctivitis among children aged 2–14 (+18%).

Finally, there has been a 17% increase in deaths reported by associations among people aged 75 and older.
