Summary

During Week 8 (February 19–25, 2018), all-cause activity at SOS Médecins clinics rose slightly by 4% among children under 2 years of age, but fell sharply among those aged 2–14 (-15%). Among adults, activity remained stable for those aged 15–74 and increased by 7% for those aged 75 and older (i.e., +457 visits).

Among consultations for seasonal illnesses, there was an increase in visits for bronchitis (+11.3%, or +409 visits) and pneumonia (+11.3%, or +83 visits, primarily among those aged 75 and older). Visits for upper respiratory tract conditions are also on the rise among those aged 75 and older (+13%, or +42 visits). The share of activity for these three indicators in total adult activity is higher than in the previous two years. Consultations for asthma among adults follow the same upward trend (+10%, or +58 visits), with a higher share of activity than in the previous two years. Among children under 2 years of age, there has been an increase in visits for influenza/flu-like illness (+14.4%, or +28 visits), pneumonia (+59%, or +10 visits), and gastroenteritis (+8%, or +46 visits).

Among the most common conditions, the increase in consultations for chickenpox continues among children under 2 years of age (+54%, or +49 visits). The share of these visits in total activity is comparable to that observed in 2016. Among adults aged 75 and older, aside from seasonal conditions, there was a notable increase in deaths certified by association physicians (+30%, or +81 deaths).
