Trends in Overall Healthcare UtilizationTaking into account the impact of the healthcare workers’ strike on Monday, January 26, on activity during Week 5, overall activity during Week 6 increased by 8% among children under 15 and by 15% among adults, exceeding levels seen in previous years during this time of year.

Trends in Major ConditionsFor the second consecutive week, consultations for influenza/flu-like illness were the leading condition among those aged 2–14 and 15–74, and recorded the sharpest increases compared to the previous week. Among children under 2 years of age, there was an increase in visits for ENT infections. Among adults under 75 years of age, the main conditions are mostly on the rise, with visits primarily for ENT infections and bronchitis. Among adults over 75 years of age, visits for bronchitis are the most common reason for seeking care, along with influenza.

Trends in Seasonal IndicatorsThe sharp rise in consultations for influenza/influenza-like illness continues across all age groups (+30%, or +3,540 visits). The numbers are significantly higher than those of the two previous flu seasons, with figures close to those of the 2008–2009 and 2009–2010 seasons. At the regional level, a stabilization is visible in the Picardy, Centre, Lorraine, Poitou-Charentes, Midi-Pyrénées, Limousin, and Lower Normandy regions, but flu-related activity continues to rise in the other regions. It should be noted that this activity is particularly intense (flu-related activity accounting for 25% or more of coded visits) in the Île-de-France, Champagne-Ardenne, Lower Normandy, Burgundy, Rhône-Alpes, Auvergne, PACA, and Corsica regions.Visits for bronchitis are stable among children but have risen sharply among adults (+28%, or +552 visits among those under 75, +41%, or +231 visits among those over 75). Consultations for pneumonia are rising sharply among adults under 75 (+50%, or +128 visits) and among children under 2, though numbers remain low. For these two indicators, the total number of cases across all age groups remains significantly higher than those observed over the previous two years.Visits for gastroenteritis are slightly up among children under 2 years of age and adults under 75 years of age. The numbers across all age groups are within the expected range for the season. Regional trends show stability in all regions compared to the previous week.
