SOS Médecins National Newsletter, February 19, 2013
Activity at SOS Médecins clinics remained stable nationwide over the past week across all age groups, with case numbers slightly higher than during the 2010–2011 and 2011–2012 flu seasons. A slight decline in activity was observed in the central-eastern and northeastern regions.
The flu indicator is declining (9,494 weekly cases), particularly among 5- to 14-year-olds (-20%); however, it remains at a higher level than in previous flu seasons (2010-2011 and 2011-2012) and still accounts for 14% of diagnoses made by the associations’ physicians. This indicator is stable or declining in all regions. Among children under 2 years of age, diagnoses of bronchiolitis and reasons for seeking care due to respiratory conditions are stable at a level slightly lower than in 2010–2011 and 2011–2012 for the same period. The gastroenteritis indicator is stable across all age groups over the period; a slight decrease is observed among those over 75 years of age (-16%).
The measles indicator remains stable at a low level. The mortality indicator is stable and comparable to the 2010–2011 and 2011–2012 seasons for the same period.
Over the period, the main conditions diagnosed in patients’ homes, across all age groups, were influenza, nasopharyngitis, and gastroenteritis.
