SOS Médecins National Newsletter, February 11, 2014

Trends in Overall Activity: Across all age groups, activity at SOS Médecins clinics remained stable over the past week. This stability was observed for all age groups considered, both nationally and regionally.

Trends in Seasonal Indicators Seasonal indicators (primarily ENT and respiratory) are stable or showing a slight increase, with values in line with seasonal expectations. Calls to SOS Médecins for influenza/flu-like illness are rising sharply across all age groups (+28%, +918 cases). This trend is observed in all geographic areas, although it is more pronounced in the Center-East, Southeast, and Southwest regions, accounting for 13%, 12%, and 10% of total activity, respectively, versus 4% to 8% in other regions. The number of cases is lower than in the 2012–2013 season but higher than in the 2011–2012 season. Consultations for gastroenteritis are up 15% among people over 75 but remain stable in other age groups. However, case numbers remain high, at a level slightly higher than in the two previous years during this period. Among those under 15, ENT infections (nasopharyngitis, otitis, tonsillitis) and respiratory infections (bronchitis, pneumonia) are stabilizing. Among adults, the same trend is observed, though with an increase in pneumonia.
