SOS Médecins National Newsletter, December 5, 2022

Key Points

  • In week 48 (November 28–December 4, 2022), total activity at SOS Médecins clinics declined among children under 2 and adults aged 75 and older, while remaining stable in other age groups.

  • Influenza was the diagnosis with the sharpest increase over the past week: visits for influenza/influenza-like illness rose across all age groups (+60%, or +2,821 visits)—though less markedly among those aged 75 and older (+6%)—reaching levels far higher than in previous years.

  • In the third week after the start of the school year, and following two weeks of increases, we note a decrease in cases of bronchiolitis among children under 2 years old (-21%, or -220 visits), though levels remain higher than in previous years. This decrease is also observed for all respiratory conditions in children, except for suspected COVID-19, which remains stable among children.

  • Among adults, there has been an increase in all seasonal indicators, particularly respiratory ones, with a rise in cases of pneumonia among those aged 15–74 (+21%, or +56 cases), suspected COVID-19 (+22% among those aged 15 and older, or +478 cases), asthma attacks (+20% among those aged 15 and older, or +133 cases), and ENT conditions, primarily among those aged 75 and older (+15%).
