SOS Médecins National Newsletter, December 28, 2010
Over the past week, the total volume of activity at SOS Médecins clinics has risen sharply among people aged 15–74. It has remained stable among children under 2 and people over 75. Among those aged 2–14, there has been a decline in activity (-11%). These trends are observed across all regions.
Reported clinical influenza diagnoses rose by 68% compared to the previous week. This increase applies to all age groups. Reasons for calls regarding flu-like symptoms are also increasing, though more moderately (+8%). These trends are observed across all regions. In emergency departments participating in the Oscour® network, a similar increase in flu-like symptoms has been recorded.
The "gastroenteritis" indicator rose sharply on Sunday, December 26, and Monday, December 27, across all geographic areas: a 123% increase in diagnoses and a 70% increase in call reasons compared to the average of the previous 7 days. A similar increase was observed last year on the same dates. The same increase is seen in emergency departments participating in the Oscour® network.
Among children under 2 years of age, calls for "bronchiolitis and respiratory conditions in infants" recorded over the past week have been rising since the start of the school holidays, except in the North and Central-Ile-de-France regions, where this indicator remains stable.
The number of deaths certified by SOS Médecins has been rising since the start of the break in parallel with overall activity. Thus, the proportion of deaths among all cases remains stable at less than 1%.
