SOS Médecins National Newsletter, December 25, 2017

Summary

  • In Week 51 (December 18–24), total activity at SOS Médecins clinics rose by 8% among children aged 2–14 (+2,132 visits) and adults aged 75 and older (+553 visits), by 4% among those aged 15–74 (+1,755 visits), and remained stable among children under 2.

  • The increase in total activity at SOS Médecins clinics is primarily driven by seasonal illnesses. Notably: - the continued rise in consultations for influenza/flu-like illness among children under 15 years old (+94%, or +2,400 consultations) and adults (+74%, or +3,210 consultations). The share of flu-related activity accounts for 14% of the total coded activity of SOS Médecins associations (compared to 9% in week 50). This exceeds the level observed last year during this period, particularly among children, - an increase in consultations among those aged 75 and older for upper respiratory tract conditions (+38%, or +116 visits) and bronchitis (+31%, or +209 visits), and for pneumonia across all age groups (+11%, or +99 visits), - an increase in consultations for isolated fever among adults aged 15–74 (+14%) and children aged 2–14 (+9%),

  • - a stabilization in consultations for bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age, with a lower volume of activity compared to the previous two years.

  • Among the most frequently encountered conditions at SOS Médecins clinics, excluding seasonal illnesses, there was an increase in visits for urinary tract infections among adults over 15 years of age (+7%, or +106 visits).
