Summary

In week 35 (August 24–30, 2020), overall activity at SOS Médecins clinics remained stable for both children and adults. For the third consecutive week, medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 increased by 23% in week 35. In total, 3,034 cases were recorded in Week 35 (vs. 2,464 cases in Week 34, an increase of 570 cases). This increase applies to children (+29%, or 86 cases) and adults aged 15–74 (+23%, or 469 cases). The share of total activity across all age groups rose slightly to 5.3% (vs. 4.2% in week 34). This increase was observed in all regions except Brittany, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, and Occitanie. It ranged from +6% in Normandy to +142% (+71 cases) in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. The regions of Île-de-France, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, and Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur recorded the highest number of procedures (21%, 14%, and 13% of procedures recorded nationally, respectively). Since the start of surveillance, 79,991 procedures for suspected COVID-19 have been performed. Among other conditions, there has been an increase in procedures for bronchitis (+46%, or +82 procedures), asthma attacks (+34%, or +43 procedures), and respiratory tract conditions (+6%, or +246 procedures) in children. Finally, across all age groups, there has been a continued increase in gastrointestinal symptoms (abdominal pain: +10%, or +173 procedures).
