SOS Médecins National Newsletter, August 30, 2011

Over the past week, the total volume of activity at SOS Médecins clinics has decreased compared to the previous week (-9%). It decreased across all age groups: -8% among children under 5, -4% among 5- to 14-year-olds, -8% among 15- to 74-year-olds, and -15% among people over 75.After rising between August 19 and 24 during periods of extreme heat, the number of cases related to heat-related conditions (heatstroke, dehydration, and heat exhaustion) returned to a low level, in line with the drop in temperatures. However, a few cases of dehydration have been observed among those over 75. SOS Médecins activity related to diagnoses of fever, allergies, and fainting has remained stable over the past week. The number of cases involving insect bites is lower than last week and remains within the range observed since the start of summer. No changes were noted in the indicators for gastroenteritis, diarrhea, and abdominal pain over the past week. The number of deaths certified by SOS Médecins has remained stable over the last few days.
