Summary
In week 33 (August 16–22, 2021), total activity at SOS Médecins clinics remained stable across all age groups except for those aged 2–14, where a 6% increase was observed, representing 474 additional visits. Medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 across all age groups, as well as their share of total activity, are down after 4 weeks of increases and 2 weeks of stability (1,890 procedures vs. 2,090 procedures, a decrease of 10%, and 3.1% vs. 3.5% in Week 32). This decline is observed across all age groups except among 2- to 14-year-olds, where there was a moderate increase (+7%, or 12 cases). At the regional level, SOS Médecins medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 are stable or declining in most regions except in Brittany (+19%, or +17 procedures), Hauts-de-France (+8%, or +13 procedures), and PACA (+5%, or +19 procedures). Since monitoring began on March 3, 2020, 239,400 medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 have been performed. Seasonal indicators are once again on the decline, with observed levels similar to or even lower than in previous years. There have been rare increases, involving small numbers of cases, for general malaise among those under 15 (15 procedures in S33 vs. 8 procedures in S32) and meningitis across all ages (9 procedures in S33 vs. 2 procedures in S32). Among the most common conditions, there was an increase in procedures for gastroenteritis (+12%, or +295 procedures) and ENT conditions (+6%, or +606 procedures) across all age groups.
