SOS Médecins National Newsletter, August 16, 2021

Summary

In week 32 (August 9–15, 2021), total activity at SOS Médecins clinics declined among children (-9%, or 1,145 fewer procedures) and remained stable among adults. Medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 across all age groups, as well as their share of total activity, remained stable for the second consecutive week (2,086 procedures vs. 2,093 procedures, a decrease of 0.3%, and 3.5% vs. 3.4% in Week 31). By age group, these procedures are down among children under 15 (-14%, or 35 fewer procedures), stable among those aged 15–74, and up among those aged 75 and older (+13%, or 11 more procedures).

At the regional level, SOS Médecins medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 are stable in most regions except in Martinique (+27%, or +73 procedures), Pays de la Loire (+62%, or +42 procedures), and PACA (+11%, or +36 procedures). Since monitoring began on March 3, 2020, 237,206 medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 have been performed.

After several weeks of decline, seasonal indicators are once again on the rise, linked to the high temperatures observed in recent days in certain regions. Thus, there has been an increase in cases related to heat (+800%, or +80 cases), insect bites (+41%, or +334 cases) across all age groups, and dehydration (+92%, or +49 cases) among adults. There has also been an increase in trauma cases (+8%, or +214 cases) across all age groups and in chickenpox among those aged 15–74 (+144%, or +13 cases).
