SOS Médecins National Newsletter, August 10, 2010
Over the past week, the total volume of activity at SOS Médecins clinics has remained stable compared to the previous week. The decline observed among children has been offset by a slight increase among those aged 75 and older—a typical trend during the summer vacation period when emergency care services are less available.
The number of calls for the "feeling unwell" indicator has remained stable. However, there has been a slight upward trend among people aged 75 and older over the past 10 days. The "fever" indicator has been declining over the past few days, except among those aged 75 and older, where a slight increase has been observed. The slight increase in the "fever" and "malaise" indicators among those aged 75 and older is consistent with the increase in overall activity volume, which is typical for this time of year.
The "allergies" and "insect bites" indicators are comparable to those of last week.
The number of deaths certified by SOS Médecins associations is stable compared to last week.
The number of calls for direct heat-related effects, as well as diagnoses of heatstroke and dehydration among those over 75, remains low. Calls for conditions that may be linked to heat are at a low level compared to those observed on days of extreme heat.
