SOS Médecins National Newsletter, April 9, 2013
Activity at SOS Médecins clinics remains stable nationwide, with a slight increase in activity toward the end of the week—likely due to the weekend—observed across all regions. Patient numbers are similar to those seen during the 2011–2012 season and slightly higher than those for the same period in the 2011–2012 season. There is a slight increase in activity among children under 2 years of age (+14%, +677 visits) and those aged 2 to 14 (+14%, +1,688 visits).
The gastroenteritis indicator is rising across all age groups, most notably among adults under 75 years of age (+40%, or +633 visits). Across all age groups, the increase is +29% (or +942 visits). This indicator accounts for 17% of the overall activity of association physicians, with patient numbers slightly higher than in the 2010–2011 and 2010–2012 seasons for the same period.
The asthma indicator is rising among children aged 5 to 14 and among adults, with a 27% increase across all age groups, or +118 visits over the past week. This increase is most pronounced in the Central-East and Southeast regions. However, the number of people affected remains close to that of the 2011–2012 season.
The allergy indicator is rising slightly among children aged 5 to 14 and adults under 75. Activity across all age groups is rising slightly (+15%, or +75 visits), consistent with what has been observed in previous years. The increase in activity is most noticeable in the Northeast region.
The influenza indicator has stabilized after several weeks of decline, with case numbers comparable to those of the 2011-2012 season for the same period.
The death indicator has been trending downward over the past week, with levels similar to those of the two previous seasons.
The measles indicator remains stable at a low level.
Across all age groups, the most common illnesses remain gastroenteritis and upper respiratory tract infections.
