Summary
In Week 16 (April 19–25, 2021), the second week of school vacation for all three regions, total activity at SOS Médecins clinics remained down for children (-17%, or 2,234 fewer visits). Activity remained stable for adults.
In Week 16, medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 across all age groups declined for the third consecutive week. In total, 2,437 procedures were recorded (vs. 2,866 procedures in Week 15; a decrease of 15%), and the share of total activity across all age groups fell very slightly to 4.5% (versus 4.9% in Week 15). A decrease in the number of procedures was observed across all age groups, ranging from -14% among 2- to 14-year-olds to -21% among those aged 75 and older. Suspected COVID-19 is the third most common diagnosis among 15- to 74-year-olds. At the regional level, medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 are stable or declining in all regions, except in Nouvelle-Aquitaine (+17%, or +34 procedures). Since monitoring began on March 3, 2020, 211,237 procedures for suspected COVID-19 have been performed.
Among other conditions, the sharp decline observed last week continues across all age groups, with the exception of trauma in all age groups (+7%, or +184 cases), isolated fever in those under 15 (+10%, or +42 cases), and conjunctivitis in those 15 and older (+16%, or +28 cases). There was also an increase in procedures for allergies among those aged 2–14 (+24%, or +69 procedures) and for heart failure (+31%, or +56 procedures) and gastrointestinal disorders (+30%, or +44 procedures) among those aged 75 and older.
