SOS Médecins National Newsletter, April 16, 2013

Activity at SOS Médecins chapters has declined both nationally (-19%) and regionally over the past week, with staffing levels comparable to those of 2012 and 2011 for the same period. This decrease in activity is confirmed across all age groups. It should be noted that there was a drop in activity in certain regions on April 8, due to a technical issue and the failure to transmit data. Flu diagnoses now account for only 1.5% of diagnoses reported by doctors from the SOS Médecins associations. Asthma diagnoses are stable and account for 1.4% of total SOS Médecins activity, at a level comparable to 2012 and higher than 2011 for the same period. The allergy indicator has risen slightly over the past few days and also accounts for 1.5% of SOS Médecins’ total activity, with numbers comparable to April 2012 and lower than in 2011 for the same period. Diagnoses of gastroenteritis are down across all age groups (-23%, 3,253 weekly cases); they account for 10% of SOS Médecins’ activity, with numbers slightly higher than in 2011 and 2012 for the same period. Measles-related activity remains stable at a low level. The mortality rate is stable and comparable to 2011 and 2012 for the same period. The main conditions observed across all age groups are gastroenteritis, tonsillitis, and nasopharyngitis.
