SOS Médecins National Newsletter, April 11, 2022

Key Points

In Week 14 (April 4–10, 2022), overall activity at SOS Médecins clinics remained stable across all age groups.

Procedures for suspected COVID-19 are down across all age groups, following a stable week that came after three consecutive weeks of increases. In total, 1,983 procedures (vs. 2,161 in Week 13) were recorded across all age groups (a decrease of 8% vs. 0.6% in Week 13 and an increase of 21% in Week 12). The decline is driven by children (-20%, or -126 cases) and, to a lesser extent, by those aged 15–74 (-5%, or -72 cases). Conversely, among those aged 75 and older, an increase is still observed (+12%, or +11 cases). Suspected COVID-19 has dropped to 6th place among children aged 2–14 and to 7th place among those aged 15–74 in the ranking of the most common conditions. At the regional level, sharp increases are still observed in the Pays de la Loire region (+40%, or +31 procedures), Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (+30%, or +26 procedures), and Bourgogne-Franche-Comté (+29%, or +13 procedures). Brittany, PACA, Normandy, and Occitanie remain stable, while the other regions are seeing a decline.

Since monitoring began on March 3, 2020, 338,832 medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 have been performed.

Among other indicators, there has been a stabilization of procedures for influenza/influenza-like illness at a high level for the season. The few increases observed are mainly among those aged 75 and older. Notably, in this age group, there has been an increase in medical procedures for respiratory conditions (pneumonia and acute bronchitis at higher levels than in previous years) as well as for deterioration in general health.
