Summary

During Week 14 (April 2–8, 2018), overall activity at SOS Médecins clinics increased among children (+4%, or +958 visits) and adults aged 15–74 (+6%, or +2,450 visits). Activity remained stable among adults aged 75 and older.

Among seasonal conditions, there was a 10% increase in consultations for upper respiratory tract conditions among children under 2 years of age (equivalent to 285 more visits) and a 6.6% increase among those aged 15–74 (equivalent to 589 more visits). Consultations for gastroenteritis and pneumonia are up among adults by 13% (443 more visits) and 8% (51 more consultations), respectively. The past week was also marked by an increase across all age groups in conditions common to both winter and spring: allergies (up 45%, or 489 more consultations), asthma attacks (+15.5%, or +124 visits), isolated fever (+12.4%, or +137 visits), and general malaise in adults (+9%, or +29 visits). However, the proportion of activity for these indicators remains comparable to the values observed in the two previous years during this period.

Among the most common conditions, there was an increase in visits for chickenpox (+11.5%, or 18 visits) among children under 2 years of age. Among adults aged 15–74, there was an increase in visits for trauma (+18.5%, or +198 visits), urinary tract infections (+15.5%, or +235 visits), and low back pain/sciatica (+14.5%, or +288 visits). Among those aged 75 and older, there was an increase in visits for heart failure (+15.6%, or 29 visits) and deaths certified by association physicians (+15%, or 48 deaths).
