In week 38 (September 16–22, 2019), total emergency department activity increased among children under 15 (+10%, or 8,494 more visits) and adults aged 15–74 (+6%, or 14,853 more visits). Hospitalizations following visits rose moderately among children under 2 years of age (+10%, or +233 hospitalizations).

Over the past week, there has been a significant increase in seasonal indicators for respiratory conditions, including:

  • ENT conditions (+29%, or +3,061 visits) and acute bronchitis (+37%, or +348 visits) across all age groups;

  • bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age (+39%, or +206 visits) and asthma among those aged 15 and older (+21%, or +185 visits).

Among moderate numbers of cases, an increase in visits was observed among children and adults aged 15–74 for:

  • isolated fever (11% and 7%, respectively), vomiting (18% and 7%, respectively), gastroenteritis (5% and 9%, respectively), and conjunctivitis (39% and 5%, respectively).
