Trends in Overall Activity: The number of visits and hospitalizations remained stable across all age groups over the past week. The number of visits remains higher than during the same period in 2013.
Trends in Major Conditions: The most common conditions seen in emergency departments remain stable among adults. Among children under 2 years of age, visits for ENT infections are the most frequent (2,654 visits this week) and are the second leading cause of visits among children aged 2–14 (3,208 visits).
Trends in seasonal indicators: Among children under 2 years of age, emergency department visits for bronchiolitis are up 21% (+108 visits). With 627 visits over the week, the numbers follow the usual seasonal pattern. Across all age groups, visits for gastroenteritis increased by 12% over the past week. This increase is more pronounced among children aged 2 to 14 (+23%, or +100 visits). The numbers are comparable to those of the previous two years. There was a 15% increase in visits for acute bronchitis among adults aged 15 to 74 (+78 visits). In contrast, among children, visits for this condition decreased this week (-17%, or -59 visits). The number of visits for ENT infections is stable among children, down among adults, and up among those aged 75 and older, though with low numbers (+20%, or +11 visits). The number of visits for asthma is stable across all age groups. With 2,424 weekly visits, the numbers remain slightly higher than those of the previous two years during this period. Visits for influenza/flu-like illness are down among children over the past week (-37%, or -34 visits) and stable among adults. The numbers, still low, are comparable to those of the previous two years. Among other seasonal indicators, emergency department visits for pneumonia and isolated fever are stable across all age groups.
