Key Points
In week 43 (October 23–29, 2023), visits to emergency departments and subsequent hospitalizations rose slightly among children under 2 years of age (up 9% and 14%, respectively, or 2,243 visits and 496 hospitalizations), fell among children aged 2–14 (down 22% and 13%), and remained stable among adults.
Against the backdrop of school holidays, non-specific and seasonal indicators are mostly down among children aged 2–14 and stable among adults.
Among children under 2, seasonal respiratory indicators continued to rise, particularly visits for bronchiolitis (+34%, or +808 visits), which remained at a lower level than in previous years, and visits for pneumonia (+20%, or +67 visits), which were at a higher level. In this age group, these increases are accompanied by (less pronounced) rises in visits for asthma (+16%), ENT conditions (+12%), and, among children under 15, bronchitis (+17%) and cough (+10%).
In the context of the Rugby World Cup, no unusual variations in the monitored indicators were observed in S43.
