Key Points
In Week 39 (September 25–October 1, 2023), emergency department activity increased among children aged 2–14 and adults aged 75 and older (up 7% and 6%, respectively, or 5,067 and 2,972 visits) and remained stable in other age groups. Hospitalizations following visits remained stable across all age groups.
The increase in visits linked to seasonal respiratory indicators continues, particularly for:
ENT infections in children under 15 (+14%, or 228 visits), pneumonia in children aged 2–14 (+44%, or 228 visits), and bronchiolitis in children under 2 (+20%, or 248 visits);
asthma in adults (+9%, or +131 visits), while the indicator has stabilized among children. Visits for suspected COVID-19 are on the rise among adults, particularly among those aged 75 and older (+27%), and declining among children (-21%).
Apart from respiratory conditions, other indicators have changed little. However, there is a slight increase in visits across all age groups for general malaise (more pronounced among children under 2 years old: +26%, or +38 visits, and those aged 75 and older: +10%, or +392 visits). Among children under 2 years old specifically, there is an increase in conjunctivitis (+68%, or +67 visits).
In the context of the Rugby World Cup, which began on September 8, no unusual variations were observed in the monitored indicators.
