Key Points
In week 42 (October 16–22, 2023), emergency department activity declined among children and remained stable among adults.
Among children under 2 years of age, the increase in visits related to seasonal respiratory indicators continues, particularly for bronchiolitis (+21%, or +407 visits), though at a lower level than in previous years, and with low numbers for other indicators. In contrast, the increase in visits for pneumonia continues at levels higher than in previous years among children under 2 years of age (+25% in S42) and among those aged 15–74 (+6% in S42).
Among other indicators, there was an increase in visits among children under 2 years of age for conjunctivitis (+12%, or +228 visits). Among those aged 75 and older, there was an increase of approximately +11% in visits for urinary tract infections, gastroenteritis, cardiac decompensation, chest pain, and dyspnea/respiratory failure.
In the context of the Rugby World Cup, which began on September 8, no unusual variations were observed among the monitored indicators.
