Summary

  • During week 42 (October 16–22, 2017), all-cause activity and hospitalizations following a visit remained stable across all age groups.

  • Seasonal illnesses remained stable or declined among adults, with the exception of visits for conjunctivitis (+6%, or +34 visits) among those aged 15–74. This increase in visits for conjunctivitis was also observed among children under 15 (+24%, or +77 visits). Among children under 2 years of age, there was an increase in visits for bronchitis (+16%, or +23 visits) and bronchiolitis (+23%, or +288 visits). Among 2- to 14-year-olds, there was an increase in visits for general malaise (+31%, or +150 visits), ENT conditions (+7%, or +371 visits), as well as a continued rise in visits for isolated fever (+15%, or +175 visits) and gastroenteritis (+5%, or +54 visits).

  • Excluding seasonal conditions, the most common conditions remained generally stable among children aged 2–14 and adults, with the exception of a slight increase in visits for chest pain (+6%) among those aged 15–74. Among children under 2 years of age, there was an increase in visits for pneumonia (+52%, or +68 visits), skin conditions (+24%, or +55 visits), and urinary tract infections (+9%, or +25 visits).
