Summary
In week 41 (October 8–13), total emergency department activity increased moderately among children (+6%, or 5,194 visits) and adults aged 15–74 (+3%, or 7,532 visits), while remaining stable among those aged 75 and older. Hospitalizations following visits increased among children (+5%, or 443 hospitalizations).
Among non-specific indicators, visits increased for isolated fever across all ages (+12%, or +409 visits), asthma (+6%, or +135 visits), and malaise (+23%, or +107 visits among 2- to 14-year-olds) in children.
Among seasonal indicators, there is an increase in visits across all age groups for gastroenteritis (+10%, or +370 visits). We also observe an increase in visits among children for bronchiolitis (+26%, or +229 visits among children under 2 years old), pneumonia (+31%, or +138 visits), and conjunctivitis (+21%, or +67 visits).
Among the most common conditions, there was an increase in skin conditions among children and adults (+7%, or +288 visits), and in anxiety disorders (+5%, or +182 visits) among adults aged 15–74.
