Summary

In week 41 (October 7–13), total emergency department visits and hospitalizations following a visit increased among children under 2 years of age (up 4%, or 909 visits, and up 8%, or 208 hospitalizations, respectively), while remaining stable in other age groups.

Over the past week, there was an increase in visits for bronchiolitis (+25%, or +188 visits) among children under 2 years of age, asthma (+10%, or +142 visits) and vomiting (+10%, or +100 visits) among children under 15, and isolated fever among children under 2 (+7%, or +139 visits) and those aged 15–74 (+11%, or +80 visits).
In moderate numbers, there was also an increase in visits for insect bites (+13%, or +19 visits) among children aged 2–14 and dehydration (+15%, or +26 visits) among those aged 75 and older.

Among the most common conditions, there was an increase in abdominal pain among 2- to 14-year-olds (+7%) and those aged 75 and older (+12%); cardiac decompensation (+15%), pneumonia (+10%), and dyspnea (+6%) among those aged 75 and older.
