Key Points
In Week 40 (October 2–8, 2023), emergency department activity (visits and hospitalizations following visits) remained stable across all age groups.
Most indicators are stable or showing a slight increase (low numbers), particularly among children.
Regarding seasonal respiratory indicators: among children under 2 years of age, visits for bronchiolitis continue to rise (+12%, or +178 visits) and are accompanied by an increase in visits for cough (+12%, or +39 visits). Among children under 15, there is a slight increase in visits for pneumonia (+8%, or +70 visits—at a higher level than in previous years), and among 2- to 14-year-olds: influenza/flu-like illness (+22%—low numbers) and bronchitis (+17%, also rising among those aged 75 and older: +14% – low numbers).
Among other indicators, for children aged 2–14, there was a slight increase in visits for vomiting and isolated fever (+8% and +11%, or 55 and 156 visits, respectively).
In the context of the Rugby World Cup, which began on September 8, among the monitored indicators, there was a slight increase in visits for foodborne illness (89 visits in Week 40 vs. 63 in Week 39) and visits for acute alcohol intoxication (+7%, or +167 visits). These increases concern people aged 15–74.
