Key Points
In week 44 (October 30 to November 5, 2023), emergency department visits were stable or declining across all age groups. Hospitalizations following emergency department visits increased among children under 2 years of age (+7%, or +281 hospitalizations) and were stable or declining in other age groups.
Against the backdrop of school holidays, non-specific and seasonal indicators are mostly declining among children aged 2–14 and stable among adults.
Among children under 2 years of age, visits for bronchiolitis continue to rise (+21%, or +874 visits). Other respiratory indicators are on the rise, though at low levels: influenza/flu-like illness (+40%, or +15 visits), acute bronchitis (+19%, or +33 visits), and pneumonia (+7%, or +28 visits, though at a level significantly higher than in previous years). Also among children under 2 years of age, there was an increase in cases of general malaise (+41%, or +58 visits).
Among adults, there was an increase in visits among those aged 15–74 for pneumonia (+10%, or +413 visits) and, among those aged 75 and older, for acute bronchitis (+20%, or +53 visits) and ENT conditions (+15%, or +20 visits).
