Key Points

  • In week 44 (October 30 to November 5, 2023), emergency department visits were stable or declining across all age groups. Hospitalizations following emergency department visits increased among children under 2 years of age (+7%, or +281 hospitalizations) and were stable or declining in other age groups.

  • Against the backdrop of school holidays, non-specific and seasonal indicators are mostly declining among children aged 2–14 and stable among adults.

  • Among children under 2 years of age, visits for bronchiolitis continue to rise (+21%, or +874 visits). Other respiratory indicators are on the rise, though at low levels: influenza/flu-like illness (+40%, or +15 visits), acute bronchitis (+19%, or +33 visits), and pneumonia (+7%, or +28 visits, though at a level significantly higher than in previous years). Also among children under 2 years of age, there was an increase in cases of general malaise (+41%, or +58 visits).

  • Among adults, there was an increase in visits among those aged 15–74 for pneumonia (+10%, or +413 visits) and, among those aged 75 and older, for acute bronchitis (+20%, or +53 visits) and ENT conditions (+15%, or +20 visits).
